Into The Outdoors

About ‘Into The Outdoors’ –

“A small group of friends went tramping for the first time along with their classmates as a part of their school trip. As the students walk through the track, they slowly split up into groups. While the rest of the students were heading in the right track, Luke, Casey and Jacob went the opposite direction and ended up getting lost. As they find their way to the rest of the group, they learn about each others’ strengths and weaknesses, as well as learning more about the world around them.”

This graphic novel was heavily inspired by two things, the nature themed photos I found on Pinterest a few months ago, and the outdoors here in NZ. I have always been passionate when it comes to outdoor recreation, ever since I first moved to NZ when I was younger. My stepdad would take my family and I on fishing trips whenever he had the free time, and my mum on the other hand would encourage me to go to school camping trips, both of which I enjoyed and it piqued my interest in exploring the nature around me.

Most of the graphic novel was made with Procreate Pocket and Adobe Photoshop. The main characters of the story, as well as the page layouts and the backgrounds were drawn by me with Procreate Pocket. As for the logo and mock-ups, they were made with Adobe Photoshop. For my main page layout finals as well as the front cover final, I used Photoshop to add the text in.

I had a lot of fun throughout making this project, and in a way it had helped improve my art. Drawing up concepts, going through developments and putting it all together into this graphic novel you see here today. I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out in the end.

Thank you for checking out my project 🙂
